In this exhibition from Pakistan for the Tashkent Biennale 2009, five artists explored the theme ‘Walls’ through a layered interpretation articulated in multiple mediums. Meher, an eminent artist of Pakistan, whose oeuvre focuses on the human condition invites her visitor to walk through a maze of barriers
with images that evoke man’s changing relationship with the wall. She looks at the way the wall has been perceived through history, first as a fortification, an enduring example of which is the Great Wall of China to today when technology has destroyed the invincibility of conventional walls and left man feeling more vulnerable than ever.
