Displacement Anxieties

The curatorial concept of Displacement Anxieties focuses on problematizing the notion of cultural homogeneity in the increasingly globalized environment. It explores how the core idea within an art work can experience loss of meaning when it travels away from its contextual territory.  This ‘displacement anxiety’ is often exacerbated when subjectivities are flattened with  theoretical readings
that are not adequately equipped to take into account the multiple layers of meanings contained within the work. The displacement anxiety becomes palpable also when art is displayed within physically and cultural alienating spaces, here its inner logic is subverted and provocative statements on conflict, injustice become impotent.
