Meher Afroz connects internal and external time with visual weaves of memory and lived experience. Half a century of her life and the life of a city, intersect at the nodes of emotions like fulfillment, harmony, bewilderment, frustration, pain and empathy. They are integral to the architecture of her being…the creative and spiritual sanctuary within.
Meher’s move from Lucknow to Karachi in 1971, took place almost 25 years after the Partition of the Indian Subcontinent and during the time when a part of Pakistan was also lost. Living through a tumultuous history and the memory of a powerful cultural memory that she grew up with, form the palimpsest of her narratives.
