This first solo show of US based artist Simeen Farhat in Pakistan underlines her engagement with the feminist issues in the country she was born and grew up.  Her penchant for fabric as a medium can be seen in the sensuous engagement with this versatile material in her oeuvre. In the earlier works one can see the artist is drawn to the soft sheerness of the hand- dyed wispy fabric of the dupatta , the traditional long scarf worn by the women of Pakistan. It is the scarf little girls borrow from their mothers while playacting as grownups and later as adolescents, when it is imposed upon them by a society bound by strict rules of honor, it becomes a restrictive object that invites defiance.
